Nearly 600 acres in this most spectacularly situated region of Carneros, Buena Vista Carneros' Ramal Estate hosts a combination of hillside acres around the winery and steep, rocky sites just to the west. All the vineyards are set on south facing slopes to fully exploit the geological and topographical diversity of Carneros. The estate is then subdivided over 100 vineyard blocks based on soil and exposure, then matched to more than 50 clonal selection on multiple rootstock selections.
The estate is farmed to be varietally accurate and site specific. Before planting, we dig multiple pits to create a detailed soil profile. We then plant rootstocks that balance vigor and yields in order to increase flavor concentration and complexity. After winter pruning, we selectively shoot-thin and pull leaves two to three times a season to encourage even ripening and increase the intensity of the fruit flavors.
